The Gunpowder Plot
Today we revisited the story of the gunpowder plot so that we could think about why something happened in the past. We also talked about why it's important to study history. The children have understood that in 1605 King James was unhappy with the Catholics and treated them badly. The Catholics were unhappy with King James' treatment and so Robert Catesby and some men plotted to kill the King by blowing up the Houses of Parliament which is where Guy Fawkes comes in. Today we acted out the story. Some of the class were Catholics and some were Protestants. The Catholics in the pictures are the ones with the high viz jackets on. The children had a great time acting out the story and this helped them to see the argument from both sides. Some children are able to understand that it's important to learn from our mistakes in the past.
