Term 3 already!
In term 3 the topic title in year 2 is ‘Land Ahoy’.
The homework over the Christmas period was to create something about whales and some children produced some wonderful work which is now displayed outside the classroom. This links in with our topic writing which is going to be a non-fiction booklet all about whales. The children may have already told you about the masking tape on the floor of the cloakroom which measures 16metres; the approximate length of a humpback whale and lots of children already have some good knowledge about whales.
Our English writing is based on the story of The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson and we are going to be writing a fiction text to describe the snail’s journey on the whale’s tail.
In maths we are working very hard to use columns for adding and subtracting and also understand how to calculate using fractions. We are introducing 3d shapes this term and children will be learning about their properties: faces, edges and vertices.
We are so pleased to see the children come to school excited and ready to learn. They love the challenge of trying something new, although it can cause some discomfort we make sure the children understand that this is what learning is all about. Mistakes are ok; we learn from our mistakes.
So please help your child by making sure they read regularly, even if it’s only for 5 minutes each day, and practice their times tables as much as possible.
Thank you.
