Science Day- Towering Trees!

Year 1 braved the strong gales and blustery spring weather to venture around the school grounds today. They decided they wanted to identify which species of tree were located on the school grounds and how many there were of each species. 

We carefully collected a leaf from each sample tree and used identification charts to match the leaf to the name of the tree it belongs to. Then we organised the tree leaves on a graph to show how many different species we found and which type was the most popular. 

One group realised that they had sampled from the same tree several times so their results were not accurate. We discussed what we could do differently and how it is important to have a fair sampling when working scientifically.
