Maths- Base 10 model
14th Oct 2021
In Year 2 children enjoy using manipulatives to aid their understanding of big ideas in maths. We have been looking at place value and how the place of a digit in a number determines its value e.g. the 2 in 25 has a value of twenty (2 tens) whilst the 2 in 72 has a value of 2 (2 ones ). Children show their understanding of the value of two-digit numbers by creating base 10 models. They made towers of ten cubes to represent each 10 in a number and used individual cubes to show the ones value.
