Jack and the.... ?!

One morning an extremely tall stalk appeared on the playground.  Had Jack been planting seeds again?  No, it was a giant sunflower stem and flower head from Mrs Avery's allotment plot. 

The children were fascinated by this and spent lots of time looking and wondering about it.  This term, we are thinking about autumn and this was a great way to introduce the idea of plants dying down in autumn but also producing seeds which will then produce new plants for the following year. 

So look out for our giant sunflowers next summer!
