Year 1A - Houses of Parliament
Today, the children in years 2-6 had a chance to meet our local MP, Damien Collins. To make sure year 1 didn't miss out, we had a lesson about Parliament, Government and the Magna Carta. We learned that King John started Parliament in 1215. We discussed who was currently in Government and who was the leader of the Conservative Party. Some children could tell me that it was Boris Johnson - they had heard his name on the TV. We staged a mini Parliament where the Conservative Party wanted to introduce a new rule to allow children extra playtime but the Labour Party disagreed, saying that children should be in school learning. After a short discussion we held a vote and the Labour Party won! These are our politicians of tomorrow! Well done year 1! It's good to know that they consider their learning to be important.
