Habitat Hunt
Year 2 have been learning about suitable habitats so we ventured out into the school grounds to find out 'What habitat do snails prefer?' We searched for snails in lots of different areas and found out that they prefer dark, damp habitats with lots of green leafy vegetation to eat. We have also watched a fascinating video of a snail eating a piece of lettuce. Very slimy!
Did you know?
1/ Snails and slugs are from the family of 'Gastropods'. (not Gastro pubs!)
2/ Slugs are NOT snails without their shell.
3/ Snails and slugs have an air hole which they use for breathing.
Year 2 now spend their playtimes collecting snails and making special habitats for them. We make sure they know they must return them to their natural habitat at the end of playtime.
