Chinese New Year
This week all reception children will be learning about the Chinese New Year, the key traditions we will be focussing on are:
- Giving of red wallets
- Dragon dances
- Cleaning the house
- Eating and celebrating with family
- Fireworks
We are really looking forward to sampling traditional Chinese food on Wednesday 25th January (everyone needs to bring £1) and learning about the Year of the Rooster. Everyone has a zodiac animal associated to them depending on the year they were born.
The years below are a rough guide, but if you were born in January or February it may be slightly different as the new year moves between 21 January and February 20.

- Ox: 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961
- Tiger: 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962
- Rabbit: 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963

Most children in Turtles and Seahorse will be a Dragon or Snake, These are the characteristics they display:
Dragon: Lucky, flexible, eccentric, imaginative, artistic, spiritual, charismatic.
Snake: Philosophical, organized, intelligent, intuitive, elegant, attentive, decisive.
