At Christ Church CEP Academy Folkestone, we believe that debating provides students with an opportunity to develop many important skills, such as critical thinking, public speaking, research, teamwork and active listening. It can also help students develop their writing and other literacy skills. 

Debating from EYFS to Year 6 encourages students to become aware of world issues and develops their critical analysis, empowering through discussion, children who are agents of change in our community. 

Through our progression of skills in debating we aim to ensure the continual development of pupils confidence and competence in spoken language, develop their questioning skills and participate actively in discussion.

We use the four areas of thinking: caring, creative, critical, collaborative to encourage thinking classrooms that encourage pupils to consider ideas and arguments from multiple perspectives, including those that differ from their own!
