Habitat investigation
We managed to get out and about in the sunny weather this week to investigate the type of habitat that snails would prefer. We had lots of fun finding and counting snails. We found out that snails prefer cool, dark habitats where there is a good supply of green leafy food for them to eat. We also watched a fascinating video of a snail eating.
Did you know?
1/ Snails are from the family called 'Gastropods'.
2/ Snails are not slugs with a shell; they are different animals but both are from the family 'Gastropod'.
We now have children wandering around at playtime collecting snails and providing them with a special habitat, complete with green leaves and protection from predators! We make sure the children know how important it is to return the snails to their natural habitat when they've finished.
