Sports Celebration Days

20th Jul 2017

To open our cross-curricular spectacular 'Whirl Around the World' week, Christ Church hosted a two day Olympiad. A series of inclusive sports and activities were provided for children from YR-Y6. Over the two days pupils competed alongside their classmates and aimed to secure 'Sporting Values' tokens for their respective houses. These tokens celebrate values such as: teamwork, passion and honesty. As you can see from the photo gallery the children experienced a range of sports from: New Age Kulring, Boccia, Archery, Hockey and Sit-down Volleyball. Alongside these events a series of cross-cultural sports were also included: Tug-of-war, Spouse carrying, Kaber (Wellie) tossing and Limbo dancing. The whole event was bookended by fantastic opening and closing ceremonies. The opening included a House flag waving parade, followed by a House Hakka and a visit and demonstration by GB baton twirling sensation, Storm Porter, before she officially declared the games open. To close the children performed their House Hakka's to an impressed throng of parents, this was followed by a celebratory Samba drumming parade by our Y5 and 6 pupils; to finish local hero and Commonwealth Bantam Weight Boxing Champion, Josh Kennedy, handed out medals and trophies to our victorious houses.
