Reading at home

28th May 2018

It can be a great challenge to encourage children to read at home when there are so many other distractions and reading is the last thing on your child's list of things to do at the weekend.  However, we cannot emphasise enough just how important reading is: you can find out about new things, it boosts your imagination, it's relaxing, it helps you to escape and find out about other worlds - real or imaginary.

If your child is reluctant to read here are some ideas from Government advisor Jean Gross CBE (a former teacher), posted on the Oxford Owl website, to help.

Please, please, please read every day if possible - even if you only have 5 minutes to spare!  Each minute you read with your child is precious and will help them to progress in so many ways at school and outside of school.
